afamous artist (2007)

The constant in my work is practice. With my studio practice I am safe to make mistakes, take different directions, and come back to the start, work, rework, work, push, learn, experiment, enjoy, and play. I consider my process a practice which informs and influences my conceptual practice. My life, like my work, is in a constant state of energetic flux, and through my practices I become grounded, and this helps to focus. The focus may be short lived, but through practice, process, and concepts I always find focus again.

Through my explorations of digital media, the need to have my work acceptable, and the fact that galleries and museums where not offering me exhibitions, I created my first website, afamous artist, which is a conceptual commentary on a process familiar with many artists, that of rejection. This virtual space is very different than a physical space. On the website it is possible to isolate a specific section of a multi-sectional piece, which is physically impossible if it is seen displayed on a wall, and there is no real sense of scale, which could be surprising when seen live. I do want the work to be viewed in a gallery or museum, because, the sensation of seeing a piece in the distance, and/or getting a glimpse of it peripherally, and then walking up to it, sometimes with others around, sometimes being totally alone, is a uniquely personal experience which cannot be duplicated on a website. In my minds eye I can see my websites in a physical space.
