Garageography 3.0.7 (2007)

GARAGEOGRAPHY 3.0.7 translates Lewis Koch's third project in his private garage in Madison, Wisconsin (USA) to the Internet. It presents a text-based cabinet of curiosities within the confines of a simple wood frame one-car garage. The installation includes a video poem, a photographic frieze, hand-stamped leaves, bumperstickers, a hand towel, a unique jigsaw puzzle, and various found objects - as well as material that simply is a part of the garage space. Using Tristan Tzara's 1934 text When Things Dream as its basis, the interactive installation is revealed in many digressive layers of photographs, text, animation, sound, and video. The physical installation was shown in Madison in April-July 2006. The new virtual exhibition also presents segments from two earlier garage projects, Duct Tape Works (1993) and Garage Interiors (1983). The new virtual exhibition also presents segments from two earlier garage projects, Duct Tape Works (1993) and Garage Interiors (1983). GARAGEOGRAPHY 3.0.7 is Lewis Koch's first project at Afsnit P, a Danish website focused on visual poetry and intermedia art. In Denmark, Koch's work has been presented in solo exhibitions at Museet for Fotokunst (National Museum of Photography), Fotografisk Galleri, and, most recently, at Galleri Hornbæk (2006). This installation is made as a collaboration between Lewis Koch (photographs, video and notes), and Danish poet and editor at Afsnit P, Christian Yde Frostholm (Flash design and editing).
