Participatory closing event for the installation and audio series Blink in Second Life.
On August 12th at 2pm slt, Juria Yoshikawa and AldoManutio Abruzzo hosted an unusual closing party for the Blink show. A newer work Garden Electric was shown in place of the original Blink. Aldo performed a new wonderful work especially for the Garden and Evo Szuyuan’s beautiful machinima of the Garden was also shown.
Most spectacular was a historical happening, the likes of which had never been done at an art event in SL. Aldo and his rl wife Pi had come up with the idea of like a “blink” the art and the island suddenly would disappear during the event. So shortly after the musical performance and the video viewing, we abruptly removed all the art and leveled the island in the blink of an eye, leaving the 40 some visitors floating, surprised in darkness over an empty ocean, only the sounds of wind and waves. The viewers were still wearing the large lanterns I gave them during the performance and they became the art in the end. Then slowly the sound of a crying baby faded up followed by a new island which was gradually raised from the sea, a completely new place, void of any art. Art is immaterial. Only the experience counts. And that can change with the blink of our eyes. A very happy ending.
