Tongdo Fantasia, Journey to the West, Anonimo Colectivo Mexico, Aucklantis (2007)

The works presented on this site were shot 'in situ' over travels from 2003 - 7. They are stream-of-consciousness monologues arranged into thematic structures. Tongdo Fantasia is a 7 episode work shot in South Korea, Journey to the West is a 40 minute ride across China, Anonimo Colectivo Mexico is a 30 minute work shot in Mexico and Aucklantis is a feature length work shot in my hometown Auckland. Rather than a kind of 'travelogue' or video diary these works are a tableau of associations forming a poetic kind of narrative. The tone is dryly comical and everything is achieved with an economy of means. Besides self-generated themes, the works often allude / refer / pay homage to particular works or bodies of work, especially literary works. Important though not essential reference points are Kafka, Benjamin, Frances Yates and Joyce. Though the works are all completed they are being added ...

The works presented on this site were shot 'in situ' over travels from 2003 - 7. They are stream-of-consciousness monologues arranged into thematic structures. Tongdo Fantasia is a 7 episode work shot in South Korea, Journey to the West is a 40 minute ride across China, Anonimo Colectivo Mexico is a 30 minute work shot in Mexico and Aucklantis is a feature length work shot in my hometown Auckland.
