Goggle Earth Imagery (2007)

The paradigm shift of how we view space/landscape/landscape art using the Google Earth program is the subject in this latest painting series. Using global imagery rather than a pictorial view of landscape, my current landscape paintings depict images of familiar, local landscape vistas using satellite images. These works are a series directly taken from imagery downtown, where I live. Responding to digital possibilities, I am using the Google Earth program to address current concerns of tradition, boundaries, surveillance, originality: both personal and public themes. I am not making art taken from found internet sources but art created from an interactive relationship with satellite imagery. The breadth of this project is supported with an unlimited supply of images from varied elevations, longitudes, latitudes, vantage points and art forms.
