Three (2006)

Three is a performance installation to wonder through and experience, a living organism designed and re-designed by the performers as well as the audience.

Three aims at expressing stories based on experience and memory. Related to time, the performers follow their own thread in life and create connecting points in space. Such points or places become charged from previous events and are re-activated by walking through them and telling their story. The theatre space serves as an imprint, a transparent layer superimposed on the landscape of modern time.

This concept is based on the model of Dreamtime, created by the grand masters of ancient society, the Aborigines. In it, the landscape is engaged as a living thing and places of the mythic time, called "the Dreaming" emerge, re-enter and/or transform the surface of the earth.

Semi-transparent video walls are set up as an additional carrier, putting memory based footage on the same time horizon with the live performance. Within this multi layered setting, the audience is encouraged to feel as an integrated part of the piece, following constant change and stories being told. Three is carried out in collaboration with the Japanese performers Sengiku Bando, Ryohei Kondo and Takahiro Kawaguchi.

Full Description

"Three" is a mixed media installation to wonder through and experience, a living organism, designed and re-designed by the performers as well as the audience.

The project is carried out by the Japanese performers Sengiku Bando and Ryohei Kondo in close collaboration with the Austrian media artist Laurent Ziegler. "Three" is presented for the first time at BankArt Theatre Yokohama in November 2006.

The aim of the performance is to open up the traditional settings of a theatre and to create a story telling with various spacial and visual entities. The artists and the spectators share the same space and travel along given points, indicating the passing and alteration of time. Video walls are set up as an additional carrier, pre-recorded memory based material is put on the same time horizon with the live performance.
