Full Description

The work aims to explore the relationship between information and data gathering, our relationship to cctv and tv and the unauthorised use of personal information. The nature of information collection and processing, in particular with cctv footage has a distorting effect, the animated videos are an exploration of this and reflect the processing of gathered material. In the installation there is a video projection of a work based around this theme of distortion and interference within the production process. The video comprises of a short digital video clip, captured into a pc and then filmed while playing on the screen. Repetition of this process provides a narrative to the degrading information, by cycle number 7 the initial footage is all but lost and by 13 it has become wholly abstract, an aesthetic created by the process. The images are taken either from static cctv cameras or with a mini digital camera. They are then processed by myself and re-presented on this site and in printed form in the exhibition. Neither the installation or the web site are static exhibits, but will change as more material is gathered.
