"Phraggles" - short for "Phrased Beings" - are beings that are created when two people converse. Their appearance, though, is outside of the visual spectrum for humans. If one were to translate them into the human visual spectrum, they would appear as a type of finely configured clouds.

„Phraggles“ is what I've named the graphics with which I visualize the flow of information and, particularly, the act of generating new infomation during conversations. While conversing in an internet chat room, visitors cause graphics to emerge and, in doing so, are able to visually trace the structure and the development of their conversation.

I consider interpersonal communication an extremely creative act. During a conversation, new information is constantly created by the phrasing and merging of different pieces of information, coming from several people. However, both the information generation process and the consequential development of the participants' knowledge are barely concrete and happen primarily unconsciously. For this reason I coded this internet chatroom, where graphics turn out to be visible information carriers. Formal structures of communication (not structures of meaning) serve as the source for the graphics' generation.

Thus Phraggles are information carriers which become manifest in structures of space and time. More specifically, Phraggles are combinations, overlapping layers and fusions of projected information patterns: information which is put together as language, in other words contains structure, and is „thrown“ into the room by a few people.

The underlying idea: Phraggles exist basically in every person. They are projected into the room in the course of a conversation, where they evolve further because of the combination with other Phraggles. Therefore, all the Phraggles in their entirety may be considered as the memory of human knowledge. Via the Phraggles information is being modified again and again and passed over generations.
