Temple-Bar.org (2001)

Temple-Bar.org

Temple Bar is Dublin's official cultural quarter. Originally when the area was marked for demolition for a bus station it was colonised by artists in search of cheap rents. The place became such a thriving lively area that the government stepped in, saved it from demolition and spent millions to regenerate it as Dublin's cultural quarter. Unfortunately since the area has become Dublin's cultural quarter rents have skyrocketed and artists can no longer afford to live there.

Temple-Bar.org was commissioned for the Graham Parker curated exhibition 'We're not really Here' at The Project Arts Centre Dublin in October 2001. It was the first piece of net.art to be commissioned in Ireland. The work seeks to virtually reclaim Temple Bar for artists by competing with the official Temple Bar site in search engines and treat visitors to a random and sometimes humourous reflection on Temple Bar.
