ProjectClub
In the years 00-01 a team of artists and computer scientists from Carnegie Mellon University created ProjectClub, a virtual, networked, 3D club world where dancer and DJ avatars interact. We created a custom DJ interface, and avatar dancing interface, allowing users to dance to music mixed within the ProjectClub 3D virtual environment. ProjectClub was created using the Unreal Tournament game engine.
The idea behind ProjectClub was to sketch up our idea and then -hopefully- see it develop as other artists all over would contributed to it, to make it expand. The architecture of the world is very cute, consisting of semi transparent levels placed vertically on top of each other. Elevators take club visitor between the levels. The sound files within the DJ interface are attached to actual bodies in space, meaning that a DJ practically throws out small sound objects that bounces of the walls, moves linearly or ...

We created a custom DJ interface, and avatar dancing interface, allowing users to dance to music mixed within the ProjectClub 3D virtual environment. ProjectClub was created using the Unreal Tournament game engine.

Our demo effort didn't reach to the network part, but it is well worth taking a look at on LAN network. If someone feels compelled to fix this minor shortcoming, please go ahead.
