8/80 PIXELS was inspired by the damaged images aLexandre Venera recovered after his hard drive crashed. He writes: "looking accidentally at images of 16 bits in 8 bits I discovered thousands of mini... [chess] boards [which were] multi-colored." He decided to invert the bits (16/8) and this is a online sample 1/80 of that work.
The work is a fascinating act of reclamation. That it was "made, in part, in response to the loss of art (and
other work, no doubt) is both humorous and strongly affirmative of life and
art." (Jim Andrews - Tuesday, February 10, 2004)
