Strange Nature (2001)

After several years of living in urban Japan, I became fascinated by the ways in which nature somehow emerges out of completely artificial man-made landscapes. At the edges of the financial districts concrete foundations of outdated office buildings crumble into the dirt as the weeds reclaim the city. At the same time, digital experiences replace/represent organic ones in ways which are more than just simulations. They move and change. They have artificial logic which is sometimes quirky due to their human creators. But they're not completely under our control - error, randomness and illogic take over. Strange Nature is both a look at the physical and computer world.
