Connect / Disconnect takes images from a number of webcams around the world and combines them using random placement towards creating a generative narrative in the mind of the viewer through associations of facial expressions and archetypes.
The piece began as a screensaver installation called MacroVideo in 1997, and was ported into DHTML in 1998 with minor updates in late 2000.
