An eye locked on a cursor has an aptic function and that is partly the meaning of the hand-like cursor. If we accept this then the surface of the screen could also react to this "touch". In this shockwave movie, the displacement of a field of points is used to achieve the effect of a soft material reacting to the movement of the cursor.
