Access & Membership Policy

Our Access and Membership policy is designed to serve our values of openness and inclusion, while providing our Members with real benefits and privileges.

Access

Rhizome's content and resources are accessible in three ways:

Individual Membership

Organizational Subscriptions

By becoming a Rhizome User

Individual Membership

Rhizome Members have unlimited access to Rhizome's resources. Content older than one year resides in the Rhizome Archives and is accessible to Members only. To become a Member, you must simply consent to our Member Agreement and make a contribution of $25 which is good for one year. Contributions from Members provide valuable support to our operation and programs.

In return, Members are able to:

  • Access all ten years of Rhizome's archives of art and writing. Founded in 1999, the ArtBase contains upwards of 2,000 art works by artists from around the world. The TextBase similarly contains new media art-related discussions, essays, reviews and interviews from over the past decade.
  • Use special site features like advanced search and personalized member RSS feeds.
  • Forge new curatorial practices by organizing new media artworks from the ArtBase in a Member-Curated Exhibit.
  • Find out about an exciting course, institution, or residency listed in our New Media Art Resources.
  • Receive, on request, a copy of GROK, our education initiative designed to introduce youth to new media art and digital culture.
  • Receive discounted admission to Rhizome programming at the New Museum of Contemporary Art and to merchandise at the New Museum Store's Bowery location and online.

Organizational Subscriptions

We offer group memberships to universities, libraries, art schools and media centers to offset costs to individuals - be they students, faculty, artists or administrators. Members of organizational subbscriptions enjoy all the same benefits of individual members as outlined above. See our Organizational Subscriptions page for more information.

We also offer free group memberships to organizations and schools in underprivileged and excluded areas. For more information, contact laurencornell@rhizome.org.
