few ideas on language devices in rushdie --not a poem -

Linguistically, Rushdie does not take as his tool set the conventions used in English alone. That is, despite the fact that he has a lexicon in his mouth, he has a heavy use of devices and speech patterns found in English-as-second-language, importing other langs as well as film, radio, TV . Dvandva (putting like words together..compound ..ex. pots-and-pans) conjuncts commas lack bahuvrihi (compound that, when the words are together, refers to something that is none of the words involved ex. Redcoat) .. Art of the List and the contents included therein (artistic use or lack of conjunctions) filmic devices camera shutter angle closeup focus pan filter even just the lens ness itself arbitrariness of isolated medium might as well use conventions of other FORMS languages as well as other languages forms aha rhetorical questions non-rhetorical questions sometimes putting together narratives or descriptions at a panel-to-panel level of juxtaposing a series of moments a cer!
tain character or building (thats another thingshamanic language of the environment, as places, food, objects have a deep, real, character, instead of something simplistic and anthropomorphic), for example, has gone through; using the comma instead of a period to make a rush effect sometimes using semicolons for a caesura to the rhythm dashes parentheses and instead of a simple variation-in-sentence-length-to-keep-it-interesting the strength of a particular phrase against the backdrop of a sea of comma-less detail..or a barrage of staccato non/rhetorical questions following a humorous narrative.things like thesebecause the simple variation in sentence length seems to be a blackandwhite linear deal, whereas text can have color and depth like a brushstrokeand I dont think Hawthorne did that at all
