Artists: career trajectories

I'm doing some research on visual artists and their career trajectories and would love to get some artists' opinions. I would like to know the possible paths artists have taken from art school in order to get a dealer and how their career has progressed? I am also interested in what artists think are the main points in time at which their career progresses (e.g. getting a dealer, getting into a major collection/museum, etc)? Thanks a lot for any help!

My career trajectory has always been flat and lying on the ground, apart from a tiny little blip where it rose a few centimetres above the ground as it passed over the twig that was art school. It has fallen down a hole in the ground now, and doesn't seem to be coming out again.

Yes, artists musicians career trajectories. Well? METHOD #1. Some exceptional skill is required in the medium as well as providing something interesting and different that generally most people like. METHOD # 2. Schmooze the heck out of THE important people who can get you somewhere or someplace. METHOD 3. ( my preffered method) Do whatever the heck you like or are "INTO" not giving a rats arse what people think or how much money you are going to make Expect nothing in return and find the best paying day job you can find.PS do not quit your day job! You will need financial resources for your medium, supplies transportation etc. Some art is worthless untill after your dead,So leave your art in your will maybe your decendants will enjoy your wealth that you never recieved or got to enjoy.Again some art is worthless and can actually end up in a landfill. Another note; the suicide rates and other negative statistics do not bear great odds. Only do art if you are enjoying it and relaxed, it should be fun. IF you are not having fun go someplace else do something different. Try your hand at making home made beer or gardening. Adopt a pet. Go for a walk. Make peace with yourself. Make peace with others as well. Right now I,m into this "(aRT/mUSIC)" THING to the tune of over $100,000.00 dollars of my own money, time- travel expense,s-misfortune mistakes trial and error poor timing poor judgement etc. Even though financially speaking it,s a disaster as far as success-fame-fortune etc. In this consumer based petro-chemical age I FEEL I,m a success as I,m persuing my REAL passion. If I die in poverty and financial ruin and super bad credit I could care less. I DID IT MY WAY! The amazing amount of unusual and interesting experiences, people I,ve met!(The nice ones) The humor The adventure Is ALL worth it! In THE END the smile and the love you experience of Your fellow musicians and artists and creative people you encounter makes it all worthwhile NEVER GIVE UP GRASSHOPPERS! Never surrender!
