please help with definitions for new media terms

Posted by Meredith Goldsmith on August 27, 2008 6:18 pm

Hi there,
I am trying to find out what is generally meant by these terms and others like them:

digital materialism-- Lev Manovich's book is helpful, but has this term caught on?
digital materiality
techno-formalism
digital fomalism
digital minimalism-- I have seen Patrick Lichty's paper on this, but I'm wondering if this term is more broadly used and can be more specifically defined.

Any help or suggestions for this is greatly appreciated.

I am working with an artist who uses the characteristics of conventional digital imaging in her work-- she prints photographs physically larger than the pixels can hold them clearly together, thus calling attention to the material nature of the representation.

Thanks, Meredith
