New Music Theatre: 3D Soundscapes

San Francisco, CA… Zakros InterArts announces New Music Theatre, an
evening of 3D Soundscapes by Belen Garcea-Alvarado, Randall Packer,
Donald Swearingen and Mahlon Bouldin. The event will take place at the
Center for the Arts Forum at the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco,
one evening only, Saturday June 14th at 8:30 PM. Tickets are $12
(general) and $10 (students). Call the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
box office at 415.978.ARTS.

Featured on the program will be the premiere of Through Invisible
Cities, an immersive 3D-audio sound-text work created by writer Belen
Garcea-Alvarado with music by composer Randall Packer. Inspired by Italo
Calvino's fictitious travel narrative Invisible Cities, the work guides
the audience on a virtual journey through imaginary "city-scapes."

Also featured is San Francisco composer Donald Swearingen, who will
perform new works incorporating interactive light sensors. Located at
multiple points within the performance space, sensors triggered by the
performer's hand and body motions will be used to control the
generation, processing and placement of sound in a 3-dimensional
acoustic space.

The program includes the premiere of Mississippi composer Mahlon
Bouldin's electronic music work "In the Cypress Brake at Night,"
expressing the movement and life of the swamp in the Delta.

Founded in 1988 by Randall Packer, Zakros InterArts / New Music Theatre,
now in its ninth year, creates and presents new music, music theater,
multimedia and interdisciplinary performance works. Through its
uncompromised commitment to the electronic art forms, Zakros InterArts
showcases leading composers and artists of the San Francisco Bay Area.
