PRIVATE/PUBLIC: Exhibitions/ Exhibitionism

PRIVATE/PUBLIC, also published by Edita, is described as a "virtual
exhibition". This CD-Rom documents the exhibition of the same name held
at the The Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki in Spring 1995. It is
very passable. Not an inspiring piece of multi-media but, as many of
these CD-Rom catalogues are, informing nonetheless. It includes video
interviews with some of the 90 international artists involved and, if
not available, stills of their installed work.

The exhibition was curated using thematic categories to group the
artists and the CD-Rom has maintained these: Image-Language, Society,
Individual and Artificial Reality along a menu bar which you return to
for theme and artist selections. It includes national and international
press and public response and various accompanying texts, from those
that inspired the curatorial ideas to those presented in accompanying
discussions and seminars.
