STUDY FOR A NARRATIVE, 2011, GALLERY PIECE (GUESTS)

Every year, I let a group of students do a show. The students have an
absolutely free rein; they can do anything save damage the gallery.
The show is always planned during my annual holiday. Mostly I don't
arrive back until the show is over and the space is cleared. But this
year, I arrive early. The show has only just ended. All works have
gone. I find - this. At first I feel it might be a work - of course
even I can't recognize art all the time. But then I change my mind.
It is just too strange. What is most unsettling, is the compulsion
that grips me as I move closer to the object on the table. It is as
if another person enters my shell, commands me to sit at the table,
poise my finger above the button, wait.
