A very private show

Join us for an Upgrade!Warsaw this Sunday (23.09) with Agata Groszek, She will talk about her social and critical art, documentary films, video, pastiche films, photographies and installations. Every time She use the medium that best suits to a particular subject.

At the Upgrade!Warsaw meeting at Dziekanka She’ll presents The Family Films.

Family Films - a kind of family chronicles. Conversations with aged family members about relationships, past and controversial subjects - an attempt to catch irreversibly passing time and to gain a deeper insight in myself by learning about not much known close people.
All talks concern the relationship.

Family Films: Raspberries, 10 min, 2007
A conversation of my father with his mother, my grandmother, where love and antipathy towards different family members shift; especially conflict with one of the sisters is to be seen. At the same time it’s a registration of a difficult life of a 93 years old, blind and hard of hearing person.

Family Films: A conversation, 3 min, 2006
A conversation with my 83 years old grandfather, why he never settled a family and about his women. Dialog, that more hides than shows, but the unspoken is equally important.

Family Films: I would have lived like a lord, 10 min, 2007
78 years old uncle Richard recalls a lost chance to educate and develop his musical talent. The story is illustrated with his singing during the Sunday church mass.

Family Films: An elegant boy, 9 min, 2007
A conversation with a 78 years old uncle, how he used to pick up girls, when he was young, how he found his wife and why he married at the age of 43.

Family Films: Don’t remember, 1 min, 2007
A woman, my aunt, who defends herself from confessions. All she says is “I don’t remember”. This little piece stays in interesting contrast to the rich, never ending stories of her husband - the man from the films “I would have lived like a lord” and “An elegant boy”.

Family Films: A motorcycle, 1 min, 2007
An audio piece - my grandmother talks about the choice she had in the far past - to settle a family or to buy a motorcycle.

Why is WEF still alive?
Join us for an Upgrade!Warsaw this Sunday (28.10) with Jarek Grzesica, who =
will talk about WEF - Digital Community ( www.wef.pl ).
5:00 pm, “Dziekanka” - multimedia art workroom
"Dziekanka" is the dormitory of The Academy of Music in Warsaw, P=

Why is WEF still alive? I need it, I have no time to listen to music on CD =
and no time to go to a concert. But music and media art is part of my life =
so I decided that it is much easier to put art on the schedule, to organize=
concerts and to administrate an online library of free music, to meet arti=
sts and to be an artist; this is my way of upgrading myself.

My short story:
I am influenced by technology and music - these two things push me to get =
busy with music, jazz and new media art. This is why I had to organize my o=
wn art: the Warsaw Electronic Festival, since 2002. The same reason pushes =
me to promote unknown electronic musicians on the jazz radio program called=
Future Shock and to work on many other projects connected to electronic cu=
lture, some of them you probably know: Future Sessions for Polish National =
Radio BiS with Mateusz Kwiatkowski, Dresdner Radiostadt #1, Radio Copernicu=
s.
Since 2001 almost 200 performers were invited to participate in many small =
and bigger events connected to my activity e.g. representatives of Scape Re=
cords, Deadbeat and Bus, Tonne from Klitekture Records. Swedish producer Mi=
kael Stavöstrand and Johan Skugge from the MITEK records, projects fro=
m the French M-tronic label, many Polish performers-among them Mikolaj=
Trzaska, GB Productions Team, Rzutnik B9, April Tone, LOF, Qriozum, Game B=
oyzz Orchestra Project and Kunsbande SLA, Dagiel, Eta Carinae, Zen Lu, Ko O=
n Ten, Markus Reuter, ISAN, Syntetika, Andrey Kirychenko and many others. I=
am sure that anyone interested could find many interesting projects on www=
.wef.pl, the home website of the Warsaw Electronic Festival, my primary pro=
ject. Since 2003 I was honored to cooperate with ‘Zacheta’ Nati=
onal Polish Gallery organizing some new media exhibitions and presentations=
. Great names were invited to take participation in this program: Sheldon B=
rown - Director of the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA)=
at the University of California in San Diego (UCSD); Chris Csikszentmih&aa=
cute;lyi, who directs the Media Lab's Computing Culture group, John Craig F=
reeman - an artist and educator exploring practices that challenge the func=
tion of art and the role of the artist, Jon Cates - an artist, but he also =
teaches in the Film, Video and New Media dept @ School of the Art Institute=
of Chicago.

I am also an electronic musician – Seed Project is my solo project, b=
ut frankly speaking, at the moment I prefer cross cooperation with other ar=
tists like TASEEE (cross project with Mikolaj Trzaska) Send /Recv (Cro=
ss project with Robert Jeszke aka Lord Of Flies).
