The School of Architecture and Design (SA&D) anticipates a limited
number of faculty positions for the 2007-2008 academic year. After
establishing a regional reputation and a record of success, the
school seeks highly qualified faculty who are committed to design
education. The school seeks to build upon the strengths of its
programs with the addition of faculty members that have a
demonstrated record of achievement.

The Department of Design offers undergraduate degrees in Design
Management, Multimedia Design, and Visual Communication. The
curriculum for all programs is based on the North American model that
integrates liberal studies with professional education. Design
studios form the core of the Visual Communication and Multimedia
undergraduate programs. Applicants should have previous experience
with the North American model of studio-based design education,
professional experience, a terminal degree appropriate to their field
and show evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching.
Successful applicants will be expected to teach undergraduate design
studios, lecture/seminar courses and contribute to courses in design,
drawing and digital media in the interdisciplinary Foundations
Program. Other responsibilities include: mentor students through an
established advising process; conduct research, engage in
scholarship/creative practice; participate in service activities on
department, school and university level.

For the calendar year 2007-2008, the School of Architecture and
Design is seeking to fill one permanent position and one visiting
faculty position (all ranks are open). Applicants for the following
positions will be considered:

Faculty Position in Visual Communication

The Department of Design is seeking candidates in printmaking and/or
illustration with abilities that include a strong formal base, and an
understanding of historical and contemporary issues in design. A
strong portfolio would demonstrate broad expertise in the areas of
printmaking and/or illustration and how such practices can be
integrated within the context of a design program. Work and
experience should indicate awareness of social and cultural contexts
of design, and commitment to interdisciplinary and collaborative
approaches to practice. The position requires a demonstrated ability
to convey theoretical and practical aspects of
printmaking/illustration, design as a process, and the ability to
foster the importance of making/investigation in communication.

Faculty Position in Multimedia Design

The Department of Design is seeking candidates with abilities in
time-based media (including animation and motion graphics). Knowledge
of history of computer graphics in technology and design, 2D/3D
animation with an emphasis on problem solving processes is expected.
Competencies might include hybrid environments; typographic structure
and expression; planning and production of motion graphics for
interactive media, web, and film. Work should indicate awareness of
social and cultural contexts of multimedia design as well as a
commitment to interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches to
practice.
