- Olafur Eliasson 'Notion Motion' After his highly-praised large yellow ’sun’ at the Tate Modern in 2003, Olafur Eliasson has developed a special project for the three largest galleries of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam (NL). The presentation can be seen until 8 January 2006. We made an impression of it, not easy to film but it will show you the beauty of this exhibition.

- Argos Festival 2005 (Brussel B) will start on this thursday and from that day on will we broadcast their daily video news. So keep on watching!

- Terra Infirma Shirley Shor has opened this sunday in the RAM Foundation,Rotterdam (NL). It is a New Media Installation. Searching is about network of incessant, and circulation. It consists of a sandbox and a real-time animation. The lines are generated in real-time by software code and merge with the white sand to create a possible changeable topography. Searching bring together land and low. The act of drowing / tracing a line in the soul, initiate a concept of low which derives order from notions of space. marking the presence in the soil is an act of ownership and territoriality.

- About the new video art. This week we present the video Bleury by honeybyte (Leah Lazariuk & Pierluigi Vecchi) Honeybyte's Bleury is a layering of two different video sequences, which juxtapose perceptions of the urban landscape and the innocent yet inquisitive eyes of children.

'THE BRAND NEW ANTI RACISM CAMPAIGN'by Egill Saebjornsson and The Most Wonderful by Susanne Winterling. These has been presented by A -Clip short hello and long good-bye, 55 very different films, which in their broadest definition deal with states of insecurity, including war, economic and existential crises. However, rather than presenting apocalyptic scenarios, these films point toward individual and collective degrees of freedom through cinematic means.

- Blinkenlights Berlin (D). The truly impressive blinkenlights seems to be finally running again for the next 2 weeks at the Alexander Platz in Berlin. Blinkenlights is basically a huge 18 x 8 pixels monochrome screen based on computer-controlled lights that are placed behind each of the windows of a small skyscraper. Users can create their own animations to be displayed, play Tetris, Pong or Pac Man against each other in real time via their mobile phone (call 0049190-987654) or install a small software program to play via their computer instead.

- Passage of Matej Kren in the Pallvy Palace, Bratislava (SLO).The project itself is a metaphorical synthesis of a number of formal semantic elements: an entrance, a path, "endless walls" of books, mirrors, light, an exit and even the physical presence of the viewers themselves. Here, viewers change from "passive" observers into actors that help form the works.

- The Lloydhotel & Cultural Embassy Amsterdam (NL). The Lloyd Hotel, situated in the heart of Amsterdam’s Oostelijk Havengebied (Eastern Harbour Area), is innovative in every way. The listed national monument, dating from 1921, has been converted into a hotel, and is now a true showcase for Dutch architecture and design.

"Nicking the Never is a multi-linear installation that incorporates screen-based animated narratives into a sculptural interface. Composed of allegories about a young girl stuck in a kinetic world of emotional pitfalls, this kaleidoscopic trip into the states of selfhood bases its structure in the Tibetan Buddhist Wheel of Existence, whose images luridly and vividly describe the human struggle with need, jealousy, complacence, aggression, desire, and ego. Borrowing this emotional taxonomy, “Nicking the Never” unfolds in six corresponding short chapters: “Guzzle,” “Bash,” “Buoy,” “Smash,” “Nuzzle,” and “Dash.”

- 'Playback' Roger Whitman, MACBA, Barcelona. Robert Whitman (born in New York in 1935) was one of the first of a heterogeneous circle of artists to adopt the fledgling language of performance and conceived a distinctive personal style. His theatre works were distinguished by a poetic, fleeting phantasmagoria. To express the illusion and reality of a dreamlike physical world he used projections by a series of resources, from shadows to slides and films. Silent cinema and ritualistic, atavistic theatrical forms inspired his hallucinatory vision.

- The Unilever Series: EMBANKMENT of Rachel Whiteread, TATE, London. Although the inspiration for EMBANKMENT came from the single box she found in her mother’s house, Whiteread selected a number of differently-shaped old boxes to construct the installation for the Turbine Hall. She filled them with plaster, peeled away the exteriors and was left with perfect casts, each recording and preserving all the bumps and indentations on the inside. They are ghosts of interior spaces or, if you like, positive impressions of negative spaces. Yet Whiteread wanted to retain their quality as containers, so she had them re-fabricated in a translucent polyethylene which reveals a sense of an interior. And rather than make precious objects of them, she constructed thousands.

- Photo Exhibition: Shanghai Living In early 2004, photographer Hu Yang began documenting the lives of ordinary Shanghai residents. He originally planned to include 100 households in his survey, but over the course of the year 500 families allowed him to interview and photograph them in their homes.

Further we have Bash by Marina Zurkow (USA). Bash is one of the six chapters of "Nicking the Never”. The newest version of the installation entitled MIRROR_SPACE by Brigitta Zics (D). Interactive networked installation, which projects a personal, virtual mirror-image onto the screen, with the aid of the combination of the face of the visitor and data collected simultaneously from the Internet.

In this week playlist we proudly present to you SPOTS, which is on show at Potsdamer Platz 10 in Berlin. currently one of the world’s largest media facades. For a period of eighteen months, the eleven-storey glazed main facade of this office building owned by HVB Immobilien AG will host the light and media art installation SPOTS. The media facade has been designed by architects realities:united, the company founded by the two brothers Tim and Jan Edler.

We have the second part of DIGITALISED LOVE, M'ars Contemporary Art Center in Moscow. Love. Yes. Love. Or better, love that gets expressed through the use of digital equipment. Rather simply, “digitalised love” is the starting and ending point of Art Digital 2005. It will be the artist’s task to express his or her own impressions and resolutions on such a combination.

More and more art projects are only viewable on the internet. Synergy Gridcosm is a collaborative art project in which artists from around the world contribute images to a compounding series of graphical squares. Each level of Gridcosm is made up of nine square images arranged into a 3x3 grid. The middle image is a one-third size version of the previous level. Artists add images around that center image until a new 3x3 grid is completed, then that level itself shrinks and becomes the "seed" for the next level. This process creates an ever expanding tunnel of images, the newest level a direct result of the previous level which is a result of the previous level… and so on.


Alter Ego, which has largely been developed within the department of Medical Physics at University College London, is a screen-based installation of Alexa Wright & Alf Linney where users interact with what appears to be their own mirror image.

'Smash (Aggression)' by Marina Zurkow.'Aggression' is the fourth of six videos out of the 'Nicking the Never'installation, which we have shown in the last weeks. "Nicking the Never” is a multi-linear installation that incorporates screen-based animated narratives into a sculptural interface.

Then we have an unique video of the performance Arakinema by Noboyushi Araki, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (F). He hadn't been to Paris in 25 years. This was only the second time and it was at the Palais de Tokyo that the internationally renowned artist Nobuyoshi Araki presented his first performance in France.

And from 7 to 11 December The 16th Impakt Festival will take place on various locations in Utrecht (The Netherlands). CULTURETV will add during these days a daily new video flash to its playlist.

Art is all around you. Not only in galleries, museums or art fairs. And also for example not only paintings, sculptures or photos. It is our aim and pleasure to show you art in all its appereances and this in a global view.

Multimedia art in Zurich: A restaurant is turned into a work of art. Beginning at sundown from 11.27 through 12.31.2005, the historically protected building housing the Lake Side Restaurant in Zurich is transformed into a 450 sqm. three-dimensional video art installation. It is the work of Berlin-based multimedia artist Philipp Geist, a rising star in the young art scene.

"Karlsplatz, one of Vienna’s main squares, is soon to be renamed Nikeplatz. Apart from the new name, it appears that a huge monument in the shape of Nike’s famous “Swoosh” logo will be built in Nikeplatz" . That was the news published in Vienna. Needless to say, it was all fake. This almost unbelievable prank is the work of the artist duo known as 0100101110101101.ORG, who this time tricked an entire city: Vienna.

And we have BBT, a video of one the Second Guangzhou Triennial, China. BBT presents an extreme architecture of networks, bridges, escalators, highways and towers; a continuous system that reunites the segregated Chinese society within one vertical neighbourhood.The video shows projection graphic information onto the facade of the tower block, turning its skyscrapers into giant bar diagrams. It highlights the political and economic dimension of the Chinese residential block.

The ART- MANEGE 2005, Moscow, the international artistic fair has been held in the halls TSVZ manege, for the first time after the reconstruction of building and in the tenth time from the day of its base. In the new fair have participated more than 60 galleries from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Volgograd, Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Israel, USA.

Yang Fudong, Recent films and videos, is part of a generation who have daily lived through the radical changes in contemporary Chinese society. A recurrent theme in his work is the loss of emotional feelings and anomie among this younger generation of Chinese.

ACCESS by Marie Sester. ACCESS lets you track anonymous individuals in public places, by pursuing them with a robotic spotlight and acoustic beam system.ACCESS presents control tools generated by the surveillance technology combined with the advertising and Hollywood industries, and the internet.

We wish our viewers a Happy and Creative New Year

The Galeria Elba Benitez shows the most recent work by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos (Paris 1971). This young artist is already participating in several projects in the international art scene. Her artwork A Noiva, 2001 -a huge lamp made out of thousands of tampons- was exhibited at the recently held 51 st Venice Biennale.

The 1 Second Film is attempting to bring as many people together as possible to create one-second of animation that will raise money for a good cause. The film began as a student project to create the biggest shortest film ever made, and has gradually formed into an international grassroots 70mm co-production that includes a feature-length open-source 'making of' documentary.
Pixar: 20 Years of AnimationIn keeping with the Museum’s long tradition of presenting animation, this is the most extensive gallery exhibition that MoMA has ever devoted to the genre. Featuring over 500 works of original art on loan for the first time from Pixar Animation Studios, the show includes paintings, concept art, sculptures, and an array of digital installations.

Starting the computer game (T)ERROR, the player is spoilt for choice. A camera tracks the player’s movements and a projector throws the players outlines in original size on a white wall in front of him, all in realtime. When the player kicks, his shadow will kick.

DIVERGENCE DIFFERENT FROM ZERO Interactive installation by Mariano SardonDivergence Different from Zero is an installation where the clapping of the people on two books makes the words spring from their clefts, flowing toward the edges and remaining scattered on the floor.

This week on air we show Vagabondia from Isaac Julien. Isaac Julien is one of Britain’s most innovative and provocative filmmakers. He has been involved with forging a new language around black representation. Although his works largely retain a conventional narrative approach they are shot through with strategies which then serve to disrupt the stability of this narrative.
There is Buenos dias Santiago - an exhibition as expedition is part of a series of projects which the Swiss center of contemporary art Attitudes carried out with Latin American colleagues and exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Santiago de Chile.

Further a first introduction video of a serie from Valentina Nisi. The Media Portrait of the Liberties concerns the development, production, and interactive delivery of multiple short stories about the Dublin Liberties community. Next week we will start with showing some of the stories.

Driftnet by Norimichi HIRAKAWA is a video of his interactive installation about surfing the web.

We show you an overview of paintings of Wei Dong. Wei Dong is one of the rare contemporary Chinese artists working in ink and colour on paper. His initial mastery of traditional Chinese technique was entirely self taught and he went on to study western style painting at university.

Last but not least the latest new media installation of the American artist Shirley Shor. Leaning is a dynamic sculpture - a kaleidoscopic experience of nomadic trails, and folds.the piece is a hybrid between a physical sculpture and a virtual animation.

Now on show in the White Cube in London. “Lustrous, ornate, pictorially complex, vividly coloured, yet suffused with tenebrous solemnity, the SONOFAGOD PICTURES have all of the dramatic visual impact which one might expect to find in neo-Gothic medievalism - in Victorian reclamations of Celtic or Moorish symbolism, for example, regally bejewelled and portentous with romantic mysticism", writes Michael Bracewell.

Are Freud's intimates just more dirty laundry? This video activated piece adds more dirty laundry to the washer with detected movement from the user. Once paired up, the intimate apparel slowly drifts off screen for privacy.

Like a number of artists of the Chinese avant garde, Huang Yan calls on China’s tradition of ink and colour painting in his works. His photos of a male model whose torso is painted in traditional Chinese landscape combine one of the great Chinese art forms with body art. Body replaces paper and the traditional art form becomes signifier. With an austere purity Huang Yan affirms his place as an artist of the Chinese avant garde. The series is called Tattoo, a play on the finished product but also an indication of something which cannot easily be removed.

In this week NEW playlist we have quite some different videos of art."Notre histoire…"Palais de Tokyo, Paris, is a show that looks to the future, an exhibition that embodies tomorrow's memory today. Emerging artists in France already constitute the very stuff of our future. Because of its commitment, the Palais de Tokyo is following a history as it is being written in the present.

Like the exhibition “Light Works/ LichtWerke”, MUMOK Factory, Vienna, provides revealing insights into the manifold uses of light in art since the 1960s, ranging from the Fluxus movement, Minimal and Conceptual Art, photographs, neo-conceptual tendencies from the 1980s to contemporary media art. The show explores the connections between light and painting, sculpting, and spatial design as well as its relation with language.

Paris-based collective, Pleix have just finished their new clip called Birds for Vitalic. The clip features extreme slow-motion footage of dogs jumping and barking, beautifully shot with some 80s retro neon-style lighting (actually projections).

Further we present London Underground's public art programme Platform for Art; designed to showcase and celebrate a rich and vibrant art scene.

The Story 2 of Media Portraits of the Liberties by Valentina Nisi.The Media Portrait of the Liberties concerns the development, production, and interactive delivery of multiple short stories about the Dublin Liberties community.

From January 26 through March 26, 2006, Witte de With, center for contemporary art, is presenting Satellite of Love, in association with the TENT. Center for Visual Arts and the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). During the festival (January 25 - February 5, 2006), Satellite of Love will be the nerve center for the Exploding Television section of the IFFR’s program. representation.

Karma Physics< Elvis by Brody Condon is a modification of the first person shooter computer game Unreal 2003. As the viewer camera floats through an infinite pink afterlife, twitching multiples of Elvis are controlled by the original game's "Karma Physics" real-time physics system - generally used to simulate realistic game character death.

Postvinyl (Space Age Tool for the DJ, 2005) by Mathias Fuchs is a project in progress developing space age tools for the DJ. Our current game level contains recordplayers, records, sleeves and posters to be viewed at the discretion of the virtual DJ. The level was built for stage performances of DJs Olliver Farshi (UK) and Andy Odia (UK), Canadian DJ Michelle, Finno-Mancunian DJ Teemu Metsala, and Mathias Fuchs (AT/ GB). The current version enables the DJ to scratch in V-space.
