being posted to the fibreculture list [which moderates my posts - i was
essentially lucky to have my posts let thru]…my initial response to the new
media boarding axing i'm reposting here:


..in regards to the New Media Board and the Community Cultural Development Board
being given the chop, in a weird way it validates my decision [made approx a
year and a half ago in light of my political projecting at the time] not to rely
on any type of *australian* government funding in regards to arts production….

..what especially troubles me re: this is the broader impact of this decision on
the australian genre of net art/new media art….ie is it/they more likely to
slip in2 the graveyard of art history unnoticed, without any corresponding
substantiated trickle-down effect in a cultural sense….?

…will our art now be less likely to be utilised as an example outlet for
future practitioners who would otherwise be more likely 2 get co-opted into a
design/mainstreamic based arts perspective [ie advertising] rather than pursue a
more experimental line?
