No Human Performers
All Music Performed by Computer-controlled Acoustic Instruments
RoboRecital, a concert of mechanical music presented by composer J. Brendan
Adamson, will include no human performers. It will instead feature three
automated instruments: GuitarBot, a robotic self-playing guitar; an
automated 57 rank pipe organ; and a Yamaha Disklavier, a modern player
piano.
Six of Brendan's own pieces will be presented alongside works by Bach and
Mozart. His transcription of J. S. Bach's Die Kunst der Fuge, BWV 1080,
Contrapuncti Nos. 2 and 3 will be performed by Guitarbot. W. A. Mozart's
Allegro und Andante (Fantasia in F Minor, K.608) will be heard on Paul
Hall's Holtkamp pipe organ, controlled by computer. Although several
practical editions for human organist have been made, Mozart's piece will be
heard in its original form for self-playing organ on RoboRecital.
The program will include:
J. Brendan Adamson's
Two Studies for Player Piano (2002)
Three Studies for Automated Organ (2003)
Tides Times Two for Player Piano (2004)*
Four Studies for Guitarbot (2004)
Study for Player Piano (2004)
Study for Guitarbot, Disklavier, Automated Organ, and ModBots (2004)
J. S. Bach's
Die Kunst der Fuge BWV 1080,
Contrapuncti II and III (performed by GuitarBot)
W. A. Mozart's
Allegro und Andante (Fantasia in f) fur eine Orgelwalze K.608,
(1791, for self-playing organ)
