Re: CALL FOR CONTRIBUTORS - THE THIRD PLACE GALLERY

Has anyone else noticed the fine print, which reads, "The rights to the art
works will be granted the buyer (PlayStation2) and the selected art
institution. If the artist/artists are not willing to relinquish their
rights to their work then they should not apply for the Third Place Award
and simply submit the art work for the general gallery." ?

Curious what, exactly, my rights entail? Will net.art be taken offline? Will
I no longer be able to link to it, as my work? Do they just put a logo on
the site? Must I give them FTP access, and if so, will they start to pay my
host bills? Being that their isn't exactly a standard model for the sale of
net.art, I'd think they'd be a bit more exact in their description here.
Also of note is that I have not found a way to "simply submit the art work
for the general gallery"…

Hi Nathaniel

What it means in fine print is that PlayStation2 buys the right to copy
the art piece and donate it to a selected institution. That has the
right to exhibite it and preserve it.

The artists still has the copyright of the work, see answers below:

Will net.art be taken offline? No

Will I no longer be able to link to it, as my work? You can do what you
want with it since its still your work.

Do they just put a logo on the site? No, PlayStation is not entitled to
put a logo on the site.

Must I give them FTP access, and if so, will they start to pay my host
bills? No, you host your own site.

If you want to submit to the general gallery. Just log-in and upload
your link!

If you have any more questions. Please do not hesitate to ask me.

All the best

Jonas

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I remember thinking there was
something a bit hokey about this 'award' last time around.
More investigation anyone?
Cheers,
Ivan
