World of Art Award

Posted by Catherine Forster | Sat Sep 9th 2006 10:09 a.m.

I submitted to a call posted on Rizome and recieved email that I had recieved an award which included on line gallery placement for a year. Soon after this notice I recieved email regarding participation in an art book, this time a $ contribution was required. Does anyone know the publisher Peter Russu? or the publication World of Art Magazine?

My advice: never pay to play.

PS, never heard of World of Art Mag but their web site is horrible:

I also receive multiple emails from this guy. I have clicked on the remove button several times in the past and still I get them. This time he emailed me with some complete rubbish about how distinguished they are etc. So, I went to his website and saw his Company registration details on the site and looked him up on Companies House to find that his company is 'dissolved'. He is therefore breaking the law and this is fraud. I suggest anyone who gets an email from him reports him as a fraudster to his IP.

Take a look at their book, "Art Addiction: 100 Contemporary Artists".
It reeks of "I shelled out $500 to be in this book." They didn't even
bother to correct spelling or grammar mistakes.

You say the "award" "included on-line gallery placement". What else
    did it include?

Well, the only show I would even _consider_ forking it out for would be
the Florence Bi, only because there's one curator who's an old friend
that I'd like to do it for, _once_.

Besides that, I'm not into that sort of thing.

You have won the greatest art award in the world. You should be proud. You should pay whatever the costs to secure this accolade. It is priceless.

This guy is a Nigerian fraudster using a dissolved English company registration on his website to persuade you that he is legitimate. I have reported him to the authorities.
