The School of Art+Design and School of Film & Media studies at Purchase College, SUNY seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor, specializing in Digital Sculpture, and beginning in the fall of 2012 (subject to budgetary approval). Applicants to this position should be prominent artists and must possess an advanced degree (MFA) or the professional equivalent with a proven activity record that demonstrates expertise and in-depth involvement in media arts and sculpture. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, or of potential as an effective teacher, is also required.

The starting salary for this position will be $53-58,000 per year plus a full benefits package, including location stipend.

Our ideal candidate will be comfortable working and thinking across disciplines, having interests and experience that extend beyond his or her specialty, and encompass broader approaches to art practice and human knowledge. Successful candidates will demonstrate their commitment to student learning, success, and liberal education.

Teaching responsibilities will include foundation classes in sculpture and digital media, and advanced undergraduate courses from his/her area of specialization suitable for students with varied backgrounds. Possible classes might include (but are not limited to) installation, public art, interactive media, kinetics, robotics, experimental web work, DIY, and open source artwork. The candidate must be able to teach classes in 3D modeling, various aspects of rapid proto-typing, such as 3D printing and CNC routing, and other courses that veer between the three-dimensional world and digital technology. Other duties may include mentoring upper-level undergraduate and graduate students, and interacting with the Neuberger Museum of Art. Responsibilities will also include academic advising and community service (which encompasses committee work as well as College, School, and Board of Study governance).

QUALIFICATIONS:
A terminal degree (MFA) in a studio discipline or commensurate experience is required. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, or of potential as an effective teacher, is also required. Minority candidates are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to apply.
