Assistant Professor, Photography & Digital Art (Tenure-track)

Job Summary/Responsibilities:
LSU School of Art seeks a versatile photographer capable of practicing in traditional silver-based and emerging digital areas of this rapidly developing field. Candidate will demonstrate: ability to teach a range of courses that address conceptual and practical issues as well as creative and critical thinking, advanced skills in specific areas of creative practice such as digital image manipulation, digital printing, digital rendering, work on the web, studio lighting.

We are especially interested in applicants for the Photography and Digital Art position with creative practice and ability to teach across hybrid forms that encompass virtual and lens-based creation. The ideal candidate would cross between digital photography, video, compositing, modeling and animation.


Position teaches introductory to senior-level courses in Photography, Interdisciplinary and Digital Art courses, and graduate (MFA-level) seminars consistent with teaching loads typically assigned in the School; advises students; participates in the graduate program and becomes a member of the graduate faculty; actively participates in research or creative activity; conducts service work through school and university committees as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or equivalent degree, professional graduate degree, or equivalent professional experience in Photography, Digital Art, or a closely related field; successful teaching experience; evidence of creation of high quality work and ongoing research is required.

Desired Qualifications:
Ability to teach a course in the history of photography; encourage interactive classroom learning and student research; experience with time-based media.

Baton Rouge and Louisiana in general is a hotbed for digital media industries, with an influx of companies like Electronic Arts and media production and post-production studios moving in and investing in the region due to state initiatives to attract this business.
