Louisiana State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in graphic design starting January 2012. Application deadline is September 13, 2011 or until a candidate is selected. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre- employment background check. LSU's Graphic Design faculty is part of the School of Art, which comprises undergraduate and graduate programs in Studio Art as well as Art History. The School has 600+ students and is a unit of a College that also includes Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design. We are looking for someone willing and able to serve not only the specific needs of the Graphic Design area but those of allied disciplines in art and to complement the expertise of the other members of the department.

University and community service, student advising, and research/creative activity expected. Record of awards/publications, and/or evidence of innovation in teaching preferred. Evidence of the creation of high quality work and ongoing research is required.

JOB SUMMARY:
Teaches a combination of design studio sequences and additional required or elective courses (as deemed suitable for the individual based upon background and program need) consistent with teaching loads typically assigned in the School; advises students: participates in the graduate program and becomes a member of the graduate faculty; actively participates in research or creative activity; conducts service work through school and university committees as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
An M.F.A. degree, professional graduate degree, or equivalent professional experience in graphic design or a closely related field; successful teaching experience; evidence of professional achievement. Demonstrated ability to teach a range of courses that address both conceptual and practical issues, and which integrate instruction in computer software for design development and execution. Evidence of the creation of high quality work and ongoing research.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Secondary field of design history, and/or critical theory is desirable. The preferred candidate will exhibit advanced skills in one or more of the following specific areas of graphic design: print or web design; interactive multimedia; wayfinding; and/or information design.
