The Studio Art Department at the University of North Texas seeks a New Media Artist for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professorship in Art: NewMedia Art, beginning Fall 2011.  Candidates must have experience in 3D modeling and 3D animation or rapid prototyping in an experimental art context.  Preference will be given to applicants conversant in relevant art historical, critical and theoretical concerns, and those with expertise in interactive technologies for a contemporary art context.
Teaching experience beyond graduate school is also preferred and review of applications begins July 11, 2011.
UNT anticipates tenure track faculty searches for 2012 in New Media Art, as well as  the iARTA research cluster, Sculpture, Photography, Communication Design, and Art Education.
The New Media Art program at the University of North Texas uses technology as a medium for artistic expression. Course work exposes students to a wide variety of New Media Art practices ranging from time-based to interactive and kinetic art. The New Media Art program is actively involved with UNT's iARTA (Initiative for Advanced Research in Technology and the Arts) research cluster, which provides students unique opportunities to collaborate and take classes with students and faculty from a variety of other colleges and departments such as Engineering, the College of Music and the Department of Radio, Film and Television.
The College of Visual Arts & Design operates facilities in Denton and Dallas. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive visual art programs in the Southwest. With over 2300 undergraduate students and 120 graduate students, the NASAD accredited College offers the BA, BFA, MA, MFA in 15 program areas: art education, art history, ceramics, communication design, drawing and painting, fashion design, fibers, interdisciplinary art and design studies, interior design,
metalsmithing and jewelry, new media art, photography, printmaking,
sculpture and watercolor with a Ph.D. offered in art education.
With over 36,000 students, UNT is located in Denton just north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area with excellent research and professional opportunities for students and faculty in engineering and the arts. The position will teach all levels of undergraduate New Media Art. Teaching load 3/2.
Minimum Qualifications:
MFA degree in Electronic/New Media Art or related field at time of application and experience teaching at the college level.
Experience in 3D Modeling and 3D Animation or Rapid Prototyping in an
experimental art context is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of historical, critical and theoretical issues in New Media Art. Experience with Interactive Technologies. Teaching experience beyond graduate school preferred.
