19th Seagate Foyle Film Festival Announces
Call For Entries to the Stella Artois Film Awards 2006

The 19th Seagate Foyle Film Festival (SFFF) will run from the 10th - 19th November 2006, once again playing host to the competition for the increasingly sought after Stella Artois Film Awards, where hundreds of films compete for outstanding recognition as winners of these prestigious prizes.

Once again the Strand Multiplex and The Nerve Centre will give film fans the opportunity to see the very latest short and animated films, feature films and documentaries as part of the 19th Seagate Foyle Film Festival. Many of these inspiring screenings will make their debut in Derry, or will have entertained audiences at festivals around the world.

Delighted to be encouraging filmmakers, Nicola Trainor, Stella Artois Brand Manager, says, "As an international brand that is known for its commitment to film we are delighted to be involved in a competition of this scale and I'd encourage any budding director and producers to enter. The team at Foyle have worked hard to develop the international film competition to the prestigious position that we can offer winners of our Short film and Animation categories automatic qualification to be considered for an Academy Award."

The deciding Jury of the Stella Artois Film Awards, made up of filmmakers, academics, animators and film enthusiasts, have an uncanny ability to also select future Oscar winners. Dual winners of the Festival's Stella Artois Film Awards and the Academy Awards include: Six Shooter 2006, Goodbye (Highly Recommended, SFFF) 2005, Wasp 2005 (Highly Recommended, SFFF), Harvie Krumpet 2004 and ChubbChubbs 2003, with many of the winners also receiving Oscar nominations.

Featuring the films of emerging directors alongside the more established auteurs is a distinguishing factor of the Seagate Foyle Film Festival. Every year the festival's programme aims to provide a blend of genres and styles drawing wide appeal, including an extensive curriculum-focused Educational programme which incorporates an Outreach strand of screenings, which are available for Primary and Post-Primary Schools.

The final deadline date for entry submission is 4th September 2006.
