Media Studies Senior Position - The New School

Job Title: Associate or Full Professor of Media Studies

Job Description: The Media Studies Program at The New School is seeking a tenure-track or tenured associate or full professor to begin July 1, 2010. The Media Studies Program enrolls more than 400 students from 30 countries, and offers a curriculum in Media Theory, History, and Criticism, Film Studies, Media Management, and audio, video, film, and digital media production. The program also offers the M.A. degree online. (Further information can be found at www.newschool.edu/mediastudies.) We seek a distinguished scholar and teacher to teach in the areas of media history, theory, philosophy and/or criticism as well as in candidate’s area of academic specialization; oversee required courses in media theory and practice and/or thesis process; Take a leadership role in speaker series and other academic symposia; and participate in student advising, admissions evaluations, committee work, and special projects. While the position is primarily dedicated to supporting the graduate program, opportunities for undergraduate teaching are likely to develop.

Qualifications: Terminal degree (Ph.D. preferred), or equivalent experience in a media related discipline. The candidate must have demonstrated teaching excellence and a record of professional accomplishment warranting the rank of associate or full professor. Some administrative experience is preferred.
