  • Location: London, UK
  • Deadline: Aug 4 2019 at 4:00PM
Sweet ‘Art are currently seeking artists to take part in their upcoming exhibition in October 2019 to celebrate Halloween. The exhibition will be a themed around all things deadly, deathly and undead.

We are seeking works for an 18 day long visual art exhibition to run over the Halloween period in Vout-O-Reenees Stash Gallery. The opening reception and dress-up party will be hosted in the very apt surroundings of Vout-O-Reenees arts members club, which resides in the depths of the crypt of a gothic church.

The exhibition will run from the 16th Oct to the 3rd Nov. All will be welcome at the opening reception on the 17th Oct, which will be an opportunity for guests to enjoy a drink and view the curated exhibition in the most spookily beautiful of surroundings. The dress-up party will be themed around The Death of Art and take place on the 2nd Nov. All exhibiting artists will be guests of the club for the evening and enter free of charge. The party will then be a ticketed event for others wanting to join us for an evening of art, dress-up, spooky performance, music and a sweet treat gory banquet.

We will be seeking works in any medium including painting, photography, print and sculpture (although the size of the gallery will limit work size to under 1m square) and in honour of our organizational ethos we also welcome works that explore the theme in relation to issues that affect women both socially and politically. We also particularly welcome submissions from BAME artists and women of colour.

So do hit us with your most deathly offerings! Works can explore the concept of and rituals surrounding death across cultures, grief and celebration of life, burial and resurrection or religion and visions of the afterlife. Artistic offerings can pay homage to dead artists and dead art practice, explore the ‘death of art’ in relation to arts historical and current cultural or political relevance. We want to see your visual responses to the way death is represented in popular culture, in cinema and in literature. Works that horrify and offer comfort, the merciless and macabre the disturbed and diabolical the surreal and supernatural!

Selected artists will be given the opportunity to exhibit in the beautiful Stash Gallery located in London’s Aldgate near to Tower Bridge. The show will be installed by experienced curators, and invitations, press releases and promotion will be included.

There is no fee to submit your work and those whose work is accepted will be asked to pay an exhibition fee of £55 plus a £2 paypal charge to cover exhibiting costs as Sweet ‘Art is a non funded organization. You can read more about our fees, selection process and mission and values on our website.
