What Games Can Be.

The School of Design at DePaul University is launching a new MFA in Game Design in Fall 2017 and is accepting applications until March 1st.

The MFA in Game Design is for creative visionaries intent on producing socially, culturally, and emotionally substantial interactive experiences. On the cutting edge of art game design and the design of games with a purpose, the degree prepares students to advance the frontier of games by exploring emerging theories and applying them to practice. The games students create throughout their degree will be engaged and challenged in critiques with faculty and peers, juried shows, and community events. Graduates of the program will be equipped to define and realize their authentic, thriving professional lives. The MFA is also a terminal degree that opens opportunities to teach at the university level and enter an academic tenure-track career.

The MFA in Game Design is housed the School of Design, which offers a rich community of degree programs in Graphic Design, Interactive and Social Media, Experience Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Human-Centered Design and Digital Communication and Media Arts. It also benefits from collaborative opportunities with the undergraduate and graduate game programming degrees in the College of Computing and Digital Media whose students work side-by-side with designers and artists to build games. And, located in the heart of Chicago, DePaul students are immersed in the city's vibrant cultural scene.

All interested candidates are encouraged to apply. The MFA in Game Design is geared to get students up to speed quickly who are coming from a range of disciplines including professional game development, artistic practice, humanities and sciences. Previous experience in game design is not required if the applicant demonstrates a professional level of practice in another field that can provide skills or knowledge that can inform and enrich their work in games.
