THE_PROJECTION_ROOM:

INSTALGIA
by Viktor Brim

This month at The Projection Room we are delighted to present the psychogeographic melancholy of Berlin-based artist Viktor Brim. In Viktor's films, space appears as a metaphor-creating process due to its liminal status between subject and object.

A feeling of restlessness and insatiability for attractions ecloses to be nothing more than general indifference, which the protagonists of the movie experience as boredom. They go sightseeing, eat fast food, fight, take pictures and get lost in the tumult of the city. They move through streets and alleys with gardens and statues, museums and galleries with a more or less lethargic lack of interest. Their fingers never leave the camera thus to periodically create a digital impression of reality.

Selected from open submissions, The Projection Room programme offers the viewer solo and group video screenings on a monthly rotation, beamed to a screen of your choice, anywhere...

THE_CUTTING_ROOM:

CAPITAL

This month at The Cutting Room we are pleased to present one of the surviving videos produced by Copenhagen-based collective The Institute of Film & Video Studies, an anonymous group of anti-establishment figures that was founded in 2008, before being dissolved prematurely in 2010.

This film presents a conjunction between two different records inspired by the prospect of a short stay in Rome. The first record was borne out of the question ‘How does one take an original photograph in this most photographed of cities?’ and the second comes from a letter written by a philosopher to his own future self which is to be read in ‘The Eternal City’

UN[dis]Criminate:

BORDERLINE_
by Samantha Harvey

Located in courtyards of the Unstitute - inbetween spaces, between other structures, temporary or otherwise - is a network of diverse encampments serving any number of uses; political or otherwise. In these digital encampments you can see the building of a new archive: UN[dis]CRIMINATE.

The intention of the film is to create an environment in which it occupies of empathy and compassion. borderline_ is an emotive response, voicing my own despair in reflecting the world that surrounds me through the medium of video and sound. It addresses with conflicting breaking down images a positive voice, looking at the refugee and immigration crisis, and closing of borders happening currently across the world...
