Midtown As Muse

  • Location: New York City, New York
  • Deadline: Aug 26 2016 at 11:08PM
New York is many cities in one. New York contains multitudes. AC Institute, a Manhattan based non-profit art space, invites artists working in all media to submit proposals for a site specific piece based on a location of their choice in midtown Manhattan. Picking one site between 34th Street and 59th Street and 1st Ave and 9th Ave, we ask artists to propose works that engage with that site’s history, function and significance. From the Garment District to the Diamond District to Times Square to Rockefeller Center, St. Paul’s, the New York Public Library, the UN, MOMA–there is a bevy of meaning laden landmarks packed into this neighborhood as well as overlooked spaces that also have stories to tell. Works are to make use of public space and to follow all New York City laws pertaining to use of those spaces. Preference will be given to performance, installation and digital media. For greater NYC artists only.
