Professor of Interactive Media

  • Type: job
  • Location: Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
  • Deadline: Jan 31 2016 at 11:59PM
NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for full time non-tenure track multi-year positions in the Interactive Media program, to begin Fall 2016. While technical fluency in computer programming and physical computing is a must, we are looking for someone who recognizes the aesthetic, cultural, and ethical implications of working with new technologies. Candidates must be able to continually engage with new tools and modes of expression and inspire students to do the same. We are looking for someone who will continually re-invent the curriculum and its integration into the NYUAD liberal arts experience as an ongoing part of their own research in interactive media. The Interactive Media program is a multidisciplinary concentration formally housed in the Arts and Humanities Division of NYUAD, but has broad reach into Engineering, Science, and Social Sciences. The program’s mission is to foster the creative use of new technologies for communication and expression. We focus on experimentation and production both inside and outside the classroom. Classes are run in a workshop-like environment fostering active learning and encouraging discussion of concept, content and technique. Engaging with students in the program's lab space through project assistance and personal direction is also key. As a rapidly growing program, applicants who can teach foundation classes in programming, physical computing, web technologies and digital design tools along with advanced production courses will be favorably considered. Advanced topics include, but are not limited to, game design, media for live performance, networking, user experience and design. A MFA, MPS or Ph.D. is required. Experience in developing course materials is also required. Good interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and actively interact with students in a multicultural education setting are highly desirable. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vita, a statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness and if possible, two syllabi for courses at different levels. Review of applications will continue throughout the year until the position is filled. Due to the high volume of applications, only those selected for interview will be contacted. Hiring for this position is subject to final budgetary approval.
