Stadium announces the launching of Every Icon, a work for the world wide
web by John Simon Jr.

Every Icon is a java applet that has been programmed to generate every
possible image. In contrast to presenting a single image as an
intentional sign, Every Icon is a 32 x 32 grid that begins to generate
every possible combination of black and white squares until every square
is black. However resolveable in theory, in practical terms it would
take hundreds of trillions of years before any recognizable images
appear. A copy of Every Icon exists on the stadium server but it will
perfectly duplicate itself through electronic distribution onto other
computers.

John Simon Jr questions our image driven culture by producing an object
that not only outperforms our culture but outlives it. His works focus
on the relation of culture to technology, ranging from the examination
