Now this is a small proposal.
What would happen if the American Armed forces renamed their ships, tanks and missles after poets and artists that they celebrate. The same rule would have to apply to the other world powers.
What was the USS Enterprise becomes the USS Georgia O'Keefe.
Let's substitute the USS Saratoga for the USS William Carlos Williams
And the USS Yorktown becomes the USS John Cage.
The UK would have to sunbsitute the HMS Bath for the HMS Samuel Beckett.
The HMS Caldwell would become the HMS Damien Hirst.
The HMS Brighton becomes the HMS Lucien Freud.
The French Navy of course would have to follow with:
The Cassard becomes the Blaise Cendrars
And the Jean Bart becomes the Roland Barthes.
Now imagine them meeting on the open seas and instead of exchanging gunfire and hostility they engage in poetic analysis, the meaning of time and chronology in a world imploded by technology.
Then we'd have some reason to celebrate our investment in the military.
