The Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA) presents a
conversation with ANNE-MARIE SCHLEINER and LUIS HERNANDEZ titled “The
Socio-economic Politics for Trans-border Art”
“The socio-economic politics for trans-border artwork using gaming
technologies within the arts” is an event linking Anne-Marie in Boulder,
Colorado and Luis in Mexico City with an audience here in San Diego, and
will utilize the networking, conferencing capability of today’s research
communities in CALIT2 and CRCA.
Anne-Marie Schleiner, a gaming artist/designer, fills a variety of
roles as a writer, critic and curator. She received a BA in studio art from
the University of California at Santa Cruz, 1992 and an MFA in computers in
fine art from the San Jose State University, California, 1998. She is an

Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
Additionally, Schleiner has curated several online exhibitions of game
mods and add-ons including Luckykiss (2000) and Cracking the Maze: Game
Patches and Plug-ins as Hacker Art (1991).
Luis Hernandez is co-founder of Heterarquia, which is dedicated to
architectural experimentation. He received a degree in Engineering and
Architecture from Escuela Superior de Arquitectura, Mexico City and his work
ranges from virtual architectures to installation of videogame intervention.

was an artist in residence in Sala del Cielo, Centro de la Imagen and has
shown his work as part of the ‘Vitrinas/ public art’ program.
Luis was commissioned by rhizome.org to produce Oversaturation, 2004
and collaborated with Anne-Marie Schleiner to produce ‘Corridos’ for
inSite_05 as an Artist in residence at CRCA. His work has been exhibited at
FILE festival, Sao Paulo; Microwave Festival, Hong Kong; the New Museum, NYC
