Conference Announcement and Call for Papers

The Institute of International Integration Studies, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland will host a conference on 24-25 July 2003:

Empire, Subjectivity and Political Theory
GUEST SPEAKER: PARTHA CHATTERJEE

This conference is intended to be a gathering of scholars working in the general domains of colonialism, postcolonialism, political theory, critical thought, anthropology, history and other areas related to the central focus of the conference. Though an interdisciplinary endeavour, the specific interest will be confined to one particular intellectual intersection, that involving postcolonialism and political theory. Presenters will be asked to address the following question:

How have political concepts, theories and categories arising out of non-European and non-Western cultural contexts, and out of colonial and postcolonial histories, come to inform the canons of political theory in Europe and the West?

The deadline for submission of proposed paper abstracts (150 words) is Friday, 18 April. Papers are expected to be 5000 words in length and must be submitted to the conference organizers by Monday, 30 June. More details about the conference and accommodation will be posted in the near future.
