Job Description

The School of Communication at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a lecturer of Visual Communication position (Graphic Design/Interactive Design) beginning in August 2014.
The visual communication program offers a creative and intellectually stimulating environment, with a history of over fifty years. We nurture our students to focus on their role as designers and their use of visual communication techniques and theory for various media and practices.
Responsibilities include teaching, advising at the undergraduate level, and service requirements. Candidate should have a strong knowledge of current industry-standard software (Adobe Creative Suite). The candidate will teach lower division graphic design courses, such as design history, design theory, introduction to graphic design software, beginning-level graphic design, typography and/or interactive design classes.
The proposed workload includes 4 courses per semester as well as advising, mentoring, service to the school, university and discipline. The position begins in August 2014.
Note: Summer teaching opportunities in the School of Communication are frequently available but contingent on funding.
Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree by August 2014.
A complete application including portfolios of personal and student work.
College or university-level teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications will add strength to candidacy:
MFA degree in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Digital Media or closely related field.
Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication, Graphic Design, Digital Media or closely related field.
At least one year teaching visual communication courses at the college or university level beyond a teaching-assistantship.
Ability to teach undergraduate graphic design software as evidenced in student work.
Ability to teach undergraduate web design as evidenced in student work.
Professional experience with print design.
Professional experience with interactive design.
Experience in mobile and experience design.
Additional experience with HTML5, CSS, Javascript, or other coding languages used in web design.
Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
Experience working with individuals from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Salary

$43,00 - $45,000 per academic year, depending upon experience.
