Rowan University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Biomedical Art and Visualization with a focus on Medical and Scientific Illustration, technology, and media theory. We seek an energetic and innovative faculty member to lead this newly-developed program, providing oversight and development of curriculum for the Biomedical Art and Visualization program; integration of the program with related studios and science and medical programming; and organization of studio/lab space, equipment, and resource materials.

Responsibilities consist of teaching undergrad courses with curriculum emphasis on: digital 2D/3D media, interactive and time-based work; scientific research and knowledge; information design and narrative problem-solving for medical and scientific content; critical thinking and theory; visual communication of educational media.

Additional responsibilities include: undergraduate career and academic advising; building connections institutionally and with external science/medical organizations and industry; and scholarly research that contributes to the field of Biomedical Art. Applicants are expected to assist in developing funding sources for these activities in collaboration with the Rowan Advancement and/or Sponsored Research. Service to the department, college, and university is expected.

Rowan University is a comprehensive state-designated research institution with approximately 14,000 students. Its main campus is located in Glassboro, New Jersey, 20 miles from Philadelphia, with a branch campus and medical school in Camden and a second medical school in nearby Stratford. Rowan is only the second university in the country to offer M.D. and D.O. medical-degree granting programs.
The institution is also home to the South Jersey Technology Park, fostering the translation of applied research into commercial products and processes. Its business incubator also supports that mission.

The NASAD-accredited Department of Art has 12 full-time faculty and offers the BFA in Studio Art, BFA with Specialization in Graphic Design, and BA in Art degrees. The BFA with a Specialization in Biomedical Art and Visualization will be offered starting Fall 2014. Art education students fulfill the requirements for a dual degree in either the BA in Art or BFA in Studio Art and the BA in Education.
