American University’s new Game Design studio seeks a Game Artist/Designer in residence for an interdisciplinary collaboration in public engagement games.

Description:
This 12-18 month Washington DC based, full-time residency is an unprecedented opportunity for a high quality visual artist in games. One residency is available for an artist working in 3D models, 2D Digital Art, graphic design or allied mediums with a strong emphasis in digital play. The artist in residence has two key responsibilities:

1. Continued development of collaborative and independent projects in digital games. The resident will further their own personal projects in games as well as creating visual works with a team of faculty and students producing persuasive play.

2. Lead 2-3 seminar or studio courses (graduate and undergraduate) in digital art production for games annually.

Residents are expected to become active members of the art and design community within American University and the Washington DC area. Salary is competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience, and the position includes high quality benefits. The residency may be renewable following standardized evaluation. The target start of the residency is the spring semester 2014, although it is flexible dependent on the availability of the selected candidate. However it will commence no later than August 2014.

Eligibility and qualifications:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated background in game design, implementation, and production; and will be able to blend experimental design and technology ideas with practical application. Special consideration will be given to applicants with demonstrable research or industry experience in game design, experience teaching courses, leading workshops, tutorials, or classes, and a portfolio of experimental games, board mobile games, award winning independent title(s), and substantial art direction experience.
