Beyond Ekphrasis - deadline extended

DEADLINE EXTENDED!!!

Announcing the first annual Beyond Ekphrasis juried competition.

Ekphrasis or ecphrasis, from the Greek description of a work of art, possibly imaginary, produced as a rhetorical exercise,[1] and is a graphic, often dramatic, description of a visual work of art. In ancient times it referred to a description of any thing, person, or experience. (from Wikipedia)

The point of departure for this project is Ekphrasis, but that is certainly not its limitations. For this call, we are asking for descriptions of unrealized or unrealizable works of art. These descriptions can take (m)any different form(s), not just written. To submit your descriptions, please choose the best method of documentation to fit your submission. If the description itself can be digitized (text / images / etc.) please do so and ensure that high quality files are submitted (print quality for images). If the description can not be digitized, please document it accordingly.

In addition to the work being displayed in the online exhibition space Gallery Gray (http://www.gallery-gray.com/), the juror’s finalists will be published in a zine style catalog which each participant will receive a copy of. Additional, physical, gallery locations are being discussed at the moment as well to further showcase the work selected.
