The New Media program in the School of Film & Media Studies at Purchase College seeks candidates for a full-time, Assistant Professor beginning in the fall of 2014. The successful candidate will teach research-based art and design practice within the New Media curriculum with an emphasis on the visual language of new media, social responsibility and cross-media literacies. Candidates with an active record of a socially engaged practice and experience working in public spaces and/or with diverse publics are particularly encouraged to apply. This position requires an interdisciplinary approach to design and media arts suitable for students with varied backgrounds. We are interested in candidates who possess critical and creative approaches to media-making and emerging technologies.

Applicants must possess an advanced degree (MFA) or professional equivalent with a record that demonstrates expertise and in-depth involvement with design and new media arts. Evidence of excellence in teaching at the college level, or of potential as an effective teacher, is also required.The starting salary for this position will be $53-58,000 per year plus a full benefits package, including location stipend.

Successful candidates will demonstrate their commitment to student learning, success, and liberal education.

Teaching responsibilities will include courses that are a combination of foundation classes and upper-level electives tailored to the successful candidate's area of specialization. Other duties include mentoring upper-level undergraduate students, academic advising and community service (which encompasses committee work as well as College, School, and Board of Study governance).
