The Interdisciplinary Practice and Emerging Forms (IPEF) MFA Program at the University of Houston is now accepting online applications.

This exciting new program is currently in its 3rd year; led by dedicated faculty who are active practitioners in their fields, students engage a unique array of studio and theoretical practices involving Sound Art/Experimental Composition, 3D Design/Fabrication, Gaming, Physical Computing/Robotics, Sensors, Environments, Performance, Video Art, Experimental/Immersive Cinema, Expanded Writing, Architectural Hybrids, Design Research, and other interdisciplinary modes.

MFA students are provided with 24-7 studio and facilities access, Mac workstations (After Effects, Maya, Rhino, Max/MSP/Jitter, Ableton Live, etc), 3D printer/Digital fabrication lab, sound/video editing, recording studio, build/work space, portable field equipment, and other resources. Departmental teaching assistantships and other scholarships are available. MFA theses are exhibited in the internationally-recognized Blaffer Art Museum.

Campus-wide resources at the University of Houston include performance spaces, an HD 3D/Interactive Visualization Theater, and the Faculty Affiliate Network - a network of faculty from across the university who are interested in collaboration, mentorship, sharing expertise, and establishing meaningful interface with artists. Affiliates are leading scholars drawn from, but not limited to research units such as Architecture, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Psychology, Religion and Anthropology.

Apply early, final deadline is January 15, 2014.

Admission to IPEF is based primarily on portfolio and statement of purpose. An undergraduate degree in Fine Art is not required; current and past students have come from Art, Architecture, Music Composition, Animation, Creative Writing and Humanities backgrounds. We encourage applications from candidates who are motivated, enthusiastic, experimenters involved in original research and studio practices.
