The International Conference on the Arts in Society (the Arts Conference) creates an annual forum for discussion of innovative theories, practices, and critical commentaries in the arts.

The 2014 conference travels to Sapienza University of Rome's Faculty of Architecture in Rome, Italy.

Sapienza University of Rome, founded in 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII, is one of the oldest universities in the world and ranks among the world's top universities. Situated in the heart of the city center, the Faculty of Architecture is a short walk from the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Castel Sant'Angelo, and Piazza Navona.

In this city, where old meets modern, the conference will provide a forum for interdisciplinary reflection on the nature and purposes of the arts, specifically as they are situated in everyday life, culture, economics and politics.

We are inviting proposals for paper presentations, workshops/interactive sessions, posters/exhibits, or colloquia, addressing the arts in society through one of the following themes:

- Arts Education
- Arts Theory and History
- New Media, Technology, and the Arts
- Social, Political, and Community Agendas in the Arts

Accepted proposals are also eligible for submission to the fully peer-reviewed Arts Collection of journals, featuring:

The International Journal of Arts Education, The International Journal of Arts Theory and History, The International Journal of New Media, Technology and the Arts, The International Journal of Social, Political and Community Agendas in the Arts, and an annual review issue of The International Journal of the Arts in Society.

Proposals are accepted in monthly rounds, and submission deadlines are regularly updated on our website.

The conference is also currently accepting applications for our prestigious Graduate Scholar Awards. The Award provides key opportunities for emerging scholars to meet others in their field, moderate sessions, and present their own work. This Award also comes with a full fee waiver.

We look forward to receiving your proposal!
